Summer Reading Assignments for Grades 7-9
Parents and Students:
Research has shown that students who read not only improve their vocabulary, but their writing and grammar skills as well. Summer reading will keep our students sharp when it comes to the skills they have learned, as well as prepare them for next year.
Below are the required readings for each grade. These books will be reviewed and tested on when we return in August. They should be read before the beginning of the school year.
7th - Wonder by R.J. Palacio
8th - Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
9th - Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Students will choose a second book from the following list. They will write a paper on the book they choose at the beginning of the school year. This book, too, should already be read by the beginning of the school year in August.
7th - Charlotte's Web, Little Women, Black Beauty, A Little Princess, Robinson Crusoe, Oliver Twist
8th - The Giver, Bridge to Terabithia, Star Girl, Pilgrim's Progress, Gulliver's Travels
9th - The Canterbury Tales, The Divine Comedy, The Hobbit, Beowulf, Animal Farm, Catcher in the Rye
Have a safe and happy summer.
